Let's Talk About Chocolate

Martha: Good day, Abraham! Have you ever heard of a sweet treat called ‘chocolate’?

Abraham: Chocolate? What is that?

Martha: It’s a new delicacy that’s becoming quite popular in my time. It’s made from cocoa beans and sugar. It’s sweet and delicious!

Abraham: I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything like that. As a nomad, my diet consists of meat and grains mostly.

Martha: Well, I must say, as a homemaker, I thoroughly enjoy experimenting with different foods. Perhaps I can share some chocolate with you if we ever get the chance to meet.

Abraham: That would be wonderful, Martha. It sounds like a rare delicacy, and one I would not have a chance to try otherwise.

Martha: It’s true. As Christians, we are blessed with so many wonderful things, including our health, our families, and all the provisions that the Lord has given us. Chocolate may be just one of those many blessings, and it’s important for us to enjoy them and give thanks to the Lord.

Abraham: Indeed, Martha. It’s important to always remember to give thanks to the Lord for all the blessings we have, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. Our gratitude and thankfulness can help us focus on the good things in life, and help us through the difficult times.

Martha: Absolutely. God is good, and we must never forget that. And perhaps, one day, we can share some chocolate together and delight in the goodness of our Lord, and the many blessings He has given us.

Abraham: Indeed, Martha. That would be a sweet treat, and a reminder of the goodness of God in our lives. Let us always be thankful and grateful for all that He has given us.

Martha: Hi there, Abraham! Have you ever tried chocolate?

Abraham: Chocolate? What’s that?

Martha: You seriously don’t know what chocolate is? It’s this delicious sweet treat made from cocoa beans. It’s a delicacy that everyone is raving about these days.

Abraham: Hmm, it’s not something we have in my time. But we do have honey and dates, which are just as sweet and delicious.

Martha: Oh, honey and dates are great too! But, have you ever had a chocolate cake or a chocolate cookie? They’re heavenly!

Abraham: No, I haven’t. But, do you know what’s better than chocolate?

Martha: What’s that?

Abraham: Having a good wife to take care of you. Someone who can cook a delicious meal, clean your tent, make sure you have everything you need, and take care of the kids. A wife who is diligent and hardworking. That’s what I value the most.

Martha: Aw, that’s sweet! But, I think you’re missing out on all the joy that chocolate can bring into your life. It’s the perfect treat after a long day of hard work. And, you can even make it into hot chocolate and sip on it while you relax by the fire. Trust me, you won’t regret trying it.

Abraham: I’ll take your word for it, Martha. But, I’ll stick to my honey and dates for now. They have been a faithful companion to me throughout my nomadic journey.

Martha: Well, that’s fair enough. Maybe one day you’ll get to try chocolate and have a change of heart. Until then, I’ll keep enjoying mine and thinking of you.

Abraham: Sounds good. And, you keep being the best homemaker there is, Martha. You’re a true gem.

Martha: Thank you, Abraham. You’re too kind.

About Martha from the New Testament

Martha was a woman from Bethany, known for her hospitality and service to Jesus and his disciples. She was the sister of Lazarus and Mary, who were close friends of Jesus. In the Gospel of Luke, Martha welcomed Jesus into her home and worked diligently to prepare a meal for him and his disciples, while her sister Mary listened to Jesus’ teachings. Martha grew frustrated that Mary did not help, but Jesus reminded her that listening to his words was more important than the tasks of hospitality (Luke 10:38-42).

Martha’s faith in Jesus was demonstrated again when her brother Lazarus fell ill and died. Martha and Mary sent word to Jesus, who arrived four days later and raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-44). Through this miracle, Martha’s faith was strengthened as she declared, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world” (John 11:27).

Martha’s example reminds us of the importance of both service and listening to Jesus’ teachings. We are called to serve others with humility and grace, but also to prioritize our relationship with Christ and his word. May we follow Martha’s example and continue to grow in our faith and service to Jesus Christ.

About Abraham from the Old Testament

Abraham is one of the most significant figures in the Old Testament. He is known as the father of the Israelites and a man of great faith. He was born in Ur of the Chaldeans but God called him to leave his homeland and journey to the land of Canaan. Abraham obeyed God’s call, and God promised to make him a great nation and bless all of the people on earth through him.

Abraham’s faith was tested when God asked him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. Abraham was willing to obey, but God provided a ram in Isaac’s place. This story is a powerful illustration of Abraham’s faith and obedience to God.

Abraham was also known for his hospitality. He welcomed strangers and even entertained angels without knowing it. He was a man of great generosity and kindness.

One of the most significant passages about Abraham is found in Hebrews 11:8-12, which says, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith, he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”

Abraham’s faith in God’s promises has inspired Christians for thousands of years. His willingness to leave everything behind and follow God’s call is a reminder that we must put our trust in God and follow His will, no matter where it leads.

About Chocolate

As Christians, we see chocolate as a delightful indulgence blessed by God. Chocolate is often associated with celebration and joy, and it is a reminder of the sweetness of life that God has blessed us with. However, it is important that we consume this sweet treat in moderation, remembering to honor our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit. We must also consider the ethical implications of chocolate production and strive to make choices that align with God’s values of justice and kindness towards all people involved in the process. Ultimately, chocolate can be enjoyed as a small pleasure in life that reminds us of God’s goodness and love for us.
