Doc Savage is a brave and intelligent superhero who is well-known for his quick thinking and resourcefulness. When he heard about the story of 2 Samuel in the Bible, he was intrigued by the various battles and political intrigue that took place during that time period. As he read through the story, he began to see the parallels between the events in the book and the challenges that he faced as a superhero.
The book of 2 Samuel begins with the death of King Saul, who had been ruling over the Israelites. David, who had been serving under Saul as a loyal soldier, is anointed as the next king of Israel. However, there are many who are opposed to David’s reign, and he must fight to establish his authority.
One of David’s most formidable enemies is Saul’s son, Ish-Bosheth, who tries to claim the throne for himself. However, David manages to outmaneuver and defeat him, and he is ultimately crowned as the undisputed king of Israel.
David is a wise and just ruler, but he is not without flaws. One of his most serious mistakes is his affair with Bathsheba, the wife of one of his soldiers. When Bathsheba becomes pregnant, David attempts to cover up his misdeeds by having her husband killed in battle. However, God sees through David’s deceit, and he sends the prophet Nathan to confront him.
David repents of his sins, and he is forgiven by God. However, the consequences of his actions continue to haunt him. His own sons turn against him, and there are several attempts on his life. Eventually, David’s kingdom is divided, and his son Absalom leads a rebellion against him. Although David is eventually able to defeat Absalom and regain his throne, he is left with a sense of sadness and regret.
Throughout the story, Doc Savage marvels at the bravery and ingenuity of the people involved. He sees parallels with his own battles against evil forces and understands that, like David, he is not immune from making mistakes.
As he reaches the end of the book, Doc Savage chuckles to himself and says, “Well, I guess even superheroes need to be careful when it comes to affairs of the heart. Lesson learned!”
