Alright, so let me tell you about this book of the Bible called Galatians. It’s all about how the early Christian community in Galatia was being swayed by some false teachers who were telling them they needed to follow Jewish customs and laws in order to be saved. But Paul, who wrote the letter to the Galatians, was like, “Nah man, that’s not how it works. It’s all about faith in Jesus.”
Now, I know a thing or two about faith. I mean, I had faith in myself when I was trying to land the first-ever 900 skateboarding trick. And let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. There were plenty of people who said it couldn’t be done, who doubted my ability to pull it off. But I had faith in myself and in my God-given talents, and I did it. And that’s what Paul is talking about in Galatians. He’s saying that it’s not about following a bunch of rules and regulations, but it’s about having faith in Jesus and trusting that he’s got our backs no matter what.
It’s funny, because I remember when I was just starting out as a skater, there were a lot of people who didn’t take me seriously. They thought skateboarding was just a silly hobby and that I should focus on something more practical. But I didn’t listen to them. I had faith in my dreams and my abilities, and I knew that if I worked hard enough, I could make something of myself in this sport. And that’s what Paul is saying in Galatians – don’t listen to those false teachers who want to tell you that you have to do all these things to be saved. Just trust in Jesus and his love for you.
Now, I’m not saying that faith is always easy. There are times when we doubt ourselves or when we question whether God is really there for us. But that’s where community comes in. Just like how the early Christian community in Galatia was there for each other, we need people in our lives who can encourage us and remind us of the truth. For me, my skateboarding crew has always been my rock. They’re the ones who push me to be my best and who challenge me to keep growing and learning new things. And that’s what the church should be for us – a place where we can support each other in our faith journeys.
So yeah, that’s the gist of Galatians. Basically, it’s all about having faith in Jesus and trusting in his love for us, no matter what. And if you ever doubt yourself or your abilities, just remember – if I can land a 900, anything is possible.
And in the words of Tony Hawk, “Skateboarding is an action sport. Go out there and take some action in your faith, too!”
