Well hello there y’all, it’s Dolly Parton here and I’m so excited to share with you the story of the Bible book of Amos. Now, I’m not a theologian or anything but I’ve always been interested in the Bible and learning more about the stories within it. And let me tell you, Amos is quite a doozy!
Now, Amos was a shepherd from the town of Tekoa, but he was also a prophet. He was called upon by God to warn the people of Israel and Judah about their sinful ways and impending judgment. Amos was not very popular with the people, especially the wealthy and powerful, as he called out their greed and mistreatment of the poor.
One of the most famous passages in Amos is when he speaks out against the injustice in the land, saying “let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream.” That’s some powerful stuff right there.
But the people didn’t want to hear it, they were too busy enjoying their lavish lifestyles and ignoring the needs of others. And boy, did they pay the price. Amos prophesied about the destruction of the northern kingdom of Israel and it came true when the Assyrians invaded and took over.
It’s a pretty heavy story, but it’s an important reminder to always do what’s right and take care of those around us. We can’t be selfish and only think about ourselves, we have to look out for the greater good.
But you know me, I always like to find some humor in everything. So, I think we can all take a lesson from Amos and try to be a little less greedy and a little more giving. As I always say, “The magic is inside you, there ain’t no crystal ball”.
