Once upon a time, there was a cat named Garfield who loved to sleep and eat. One day, he stumbled upon a book called the Bible, specifically the book of Genesis, and decided to give it a read.
Garfield learned about the creation of the world, how God created light, the sky, water, plants, and animals, even cats, in just six days. He was pretty impressed with God’s speed and creativity.
Then, Garfield read about the infamous apple in the Garden of Eden. He wondered why Adam and Eve couldn’t just stick to lasagna like him. However, he did understand their temptation to disobey God’s one rule since he too struggles with temptation when Jon puts a plate of lasagna in front of him.
Next up, Garfield read about Noah and the ark. He found it interesting that God asked Noah to save two of every kind of animal, but was relieved it wasn’t his job to herd all those animals into a giant boat. Garfield decided that napping on a comfortable bed was more his speed.
Garfield couldn’t help but feel for poor Joseph who was sold into slavery by his own jealous brothers. However, Garfield was impressed with Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams, something he wished he could do with his own nap-time nightmares.
As Garfield reached the end of Genesis, he learned about the famous story of Sodom and Gomorrah. He questioned why Lot’s wife couldn’t just resist looking back and turning into salt. He also couldn’t help but feel like he would have been a great king in Abraham’s place.
In the end, Garfield put down the Bible and declared, “That was a lot of information to process, time for a nap.” He then promptly curled up into a ball and closed his eyes.
Garfield may not have gained any life-changing insights from Genesis, but he did gain a new appreciation for God’s creativity and the struggles of some of the Bible’s most notable characters. And who knows, maybe one day Garfield will discover a new world of knowledge in another book. But for now, it’s time for another nap.
