Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon with Silas from the Bible
The popular game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" is based on the idea that any actor can be linked to Kevin Bacon through their film roles in six steps or less. But what about linking a Biblical character to Kevin Bacon? Let’s try it with Silas, a companion of Paul on his missionary journeys.
Silas was a prophet and a leader in the early Christian church. He was also known as Silvanus.
Silvanus is mentioned in 2 Corinthians 1:19 as a co-sender of the letter along with Paul and Timothy.
Timothy was a young disciple of Paul, who later became a bishop of the Church in Ephesus.
Ephesus was the location of the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
The Temple of Artemis was destroyed and rebuilt several times. One of the rebuilds was commissioned by Alexander the Great.
Alexander the Great was portrayed by Colin Farrell in the movie "Alexander" (2004), which also starred Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer.
Val Kilmer appeared in "Top Gun" (1986) with Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise starred in "A Few Good Men" (1992) with Kevin Bacon.
Bible Verse: "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." – 1 Thessalonians 4:16
Silas was a faithful companion of Paul who endured persecution and suffering for the sake of the gospel. His devotion to Christ and his willingness to serve as a missionary are an inspiration to all believers. Like Silas, we too are called to share the message of salvation with others and to remain steadfast in our faith, even in the face of adversity. Let us take comfort in the promise of Jesus’ return and the hope of eternal life that he offers to all who believe in him.
