Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon with Elijah from the Bible
In the popular game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," the goal is to link any actor to Kevin Bacon in six steps or less. Let’s try to link Elijah from the Bible to Kevin Bacon using the same method.
Step 1: Elijah to King Ahab
Elijah was a prophet in Israel during the reign of King Ahab. King Ahab was known for his wickedness and idol worship. He was married to Queen Jezebel, who tried to kill Elijah.
Step 2: King Ahab to Jezebel
As mentioned before, King Ahab was married to Jezebel, a Phoenician princess who worshipped the god Baal. Jezebel was notorious for her persecution of the prophets of God.
Step 3: Jezebel to Nebuchadnezzar
Jezebel’s father was Ethbaal, the king of the Sidonians. Ethbaal made an alliance with King Ahab by marrying off Jezebel to him. Interestingly, Ethbaal’s name means "with Baal" and it is possible he was a high priest of Baal.
Step 4: Nebuchadnezzar to Daniel
Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon, who captured Jerusalem and took many Jews into captivity. One of the Jews taken into captivity was Daniel, who rose to prominence in Babylon as a wise man and interpreter of dreams.
Step 5: Daniel to Cyrus the Great
Towards the end of his life, Daniel served under the Persian king Cyrus the Great, who allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their temple. Cyrus is mentioned in the Bible as being chosen by God for this purpose.
Step 6: Cyrus the Great to Kevin Bacon
In the movie "300," Kevin Bacon played the character of Leonidas, who fought against the Persian army led by Xerxes. Xerxes was the son of Darius I, who was the father of Cyrus the Great.
So there you have it, a link from Elijah to Kevin Bacon in six steps. Let’s end with a Bible verse related to Elijah: "Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years" (James 5:17, NIV).
