Wise Words Weave – a Matthew 12 Craft

Wise Words Weave – a Matthew 12 Craft

Materials

  • Cardboard or blank index cards
  • Yarn or embroidery thread
  • Tape or glue
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut your cardboard or index cards into strips, about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long.
  2. Write a wise word or phrase from Matthew 12 on each strip. Examples include "out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:34), "a tree is known by its fruit" (Matthew 12:33), and "whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother" (Matthew 12:50).
  3. Cut several strands of yarn or embroidery thread, each about 12 inches long.
  4. Tape or glue one end of a strand to the back of one of your cardboard strips, leaving about 2 inches of excess yarn or thread hanging below the strip.
  5. Weave the yarn or thread through the cardboard strip, going over and under each strip until you reach the end.
  6. Repeat steps 4-5 with the remaining strips and strands of yarn or thread, weaving them together to create a colorful and textural wall hanging.

Optional

  • Add beads or other embellishments to your yarn or thread for extra flair.
  • Create a larger weaving by using a piece of cardboard or foam board as a base, and weaving multiple strips of cardboard together.
