Sanctified Structures – a 1 Corinthians 3 Craft

Sanctified Structures: A 1 Corinthians 3 Craft

Materials:

  • Small wooden blocks (enough for each participant to have several)
  • Paint or markers
  • Glue
  • Construction paper or cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Bible verses printed out on paper (see below for suggestions)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by reading 1 Corinthians 3:10-17 together as a group.
  2. Distribute the wooden blocks to each participant.
  3. Instruct the participants to decorate their wooden blocks with paint or markers, creating a unique design.
  4. Once the blocks have dried, have the participants choose a Bible verse related to building or construction. Some suggestions include:
    • "For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building." (1 Corinthians 3:9)
    • "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established." (Proverbs 24:3)
    • "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." (Matthew 7:24)
  5. Have the participants write or print out their chosen verse on construction paper or cardstock and cut it out into a small rectangle.
  6. Using glue, attach the Bible verse to the wooden block.
  7. As a group, assemble the blocks together into a structure, such as a tower or a house.
  8. Reflect on the passage from 1 Corinthians 3 and what it means to build our lives on a foundation of faith. Discuss how the structure that was built by the group represents the "sanctified structure" that we are building as believers in Christ.

Optional additions:

  • Have participants write their names on their blocks to signify their individual contribution to the structure.
  • Incorporate other verses or themes from 1 Corinthians 3, such as the idea of us being God’s temple or the importance of using quality materials in building.
  • Encourage participants to share their thoughts or reflections on the passage as they work on their individual blocks or as the group assembles the structure.
