Nazareth’s Scroll – a Luke 4 Craft
Supplies Needed:
- Brown paper or cardstock
- Pencil or pen
- Scissors
- String or ribbon
- Decorative materials (optional)
Instructions:
Cut the brown paper or cardstock into a long rectangular shape, about 10 inches by 4 inches.
Using a pencil or pen, write out the following verses from Luke 4:18-19:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Roll up the paper to resemble a scroll, and tie with string or ribbon.
If desired, decorate the scroll with additional materials such as stickers or glitter.
This craft is inspired by the passage in Luke 4 where Jesus reads from Isaiah in the synagogue in Nazareth, proclaiming that he is fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah. It can be used as a visual aid during Bible study or as a decoration for your home.
