Heavenly Knots – a Matthew 19 Craft
Materials Needed:
- Two pieces of rope, each approximately 18 inches long
- Scissors
- Glue or hot glue gun
Instructions:
- Cut the two pieces of rope to the same length.
- Tie a knot at one end of each piece of rope.
- Cross the two ropes in the middle, so that the knots are on opposite sides.
- Take the end of the rope on the right side and thread it over the left rope, then under it, and bring it up through the loop on the right side.
- Take the end of the left rope and thread it under the right rope, then over it, and bring it up through the loop on the left side.
- Pull both ends tight to create a knot in the middle.
- Repeat steps 4-6 until you have created several knots in a row. You can make as many knots as you like, but it is recommended to make at least three.
- Tie a knot at the end of each rope to secure the knots.
- Optional: You can use glue or a hot glue gun to secure the knots even further.
Meaning:
This craft is based on Matthew 19:6, which says "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." The knots represent the unity and strength of a married couple, and the intertwining of the ropes symbolizes the coming together of two individuals to become one. The knots are also a reminder that once a couple is joined in marriage, they should remain together and not be separated.
