Disciples’ Dreamcatcher – a Matthew 10 Craft
Materials Needed:
- Wooden embroidery hoop
- Yarn or string
- Feathers
- Beads
- Scissors
- Glue
Instructions:
- Take the wooden embroidery hoop and wrap it with yarn or string, covering the entire hoop.
- Tie a piece of yarn or string at the top of the hoop, leaving enough length to create a loop for hanging.
- Tie several pieces of yarn or string across the hoop, creating a spiderweb pattern.
- Cut several pieces of yarn or string in varying lengths and tie them to the bottom of the dreamcatcher. These will serve as the "catchers" of the dreamcatcher.
- Thread beads onto the yarn or string of the "catchers".
- Glue feathers onto the yarn or string of the "catchers", as well as the top of the dreamcatcher.
- Optional: Write a verse or quote from Matthew 10 onto a piece of paper and attach it to the dreamcatcher.
Meaning:
The disciples’ dreamcatcher represents the idea that we are all called to be disciples of Jesus and to spread His message to others. Just as a dreamcatcher catches and filters out bad dreams, we are called to filter out negativity and spread God’s love to others. The feathers on the dreamcatcher serve as a reminder of the Holy Spirit, who guides and strengthens us in our discipleship journey.
