Crown of Thorns Wreath – a Matthew 27 Craft.

Crown of Thorns Wreath – a Matthew 27 Craft

Materials

  • Thin brown wire
  • Brown twine
  • Scissors
  • Small twigs or sticks

Instructions

  1. Cut a long piece of brown wire, approximately 18 inches in length.
  2. Begin to twist the wire together to form a circle, leaving about 4 inches at the end.
  3. Take small twigs or sticks and intertwine them into the wire circle, twisting the wire around the twigs to secure them in place.
  4. Continue adding twigs until the wreath is full and covered.
  5. Take the remaining 4 inches of wire and bend it into a hook shape.
  6. Cut a piece of brown twine and tie it onto the hook shape, leaving enough length to hang the wreath.
  7. Once the wreath is complete, take a moment to reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made for us and the painful crown of thorns he wore during his crucifixion.

This craft is based on Matthew 27, where it is described how soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and placed it on Jesus’ head, mocking him as the King of the Jews. Creating a Crown of Thorns Wreath is a powerful way to remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us and the pain he endured on our behalf.
