Blessed Rest – a Matthew 11 Craft
Materials Needed
- Small wooden plaque or sign
- Acrylic paint in blue and white
- Paintbrush
- Vinyl letter stickers or stencils
- Sandpaper
- Ribbon
Instructions
- Begin by painting the wooden plaque with the blue acrylic paint. Allow to dry completely.
- Use the vinyl letter stickers or stencils to spell out the words “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28” on the plaque.
- Once the paint has dried, use the white acrylic paint to add a thin layer of paint over the entire plaque. While the white paint is still wet, use the sandpaper to gently sand away some of the white paint, revealing the blue paint underneath. This will create a distressed look.
- Allow the white paint to dry completely.
- Tie a ribbon around the top of the plaque to hang.
Meaning
This craft is inspired by Matthew 11:28 which reads, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." The blue paint represents the calmness and peacefulness of rest, while the distressed effect represents the struggles and burdens that we face in life. The ribbon represents the connection between us and God, and the promise of rest that we can find in Him. This craft serves as a reminder that we can find blessed rest in Jesus.
